1. Structural Differences
Preformed reflective marking tape utilizes a multi-layer composite design, consisting of a surface functional layer, a base material layer, a self-adhesive layer, and an isolation layer. This structure allows it to withstand direct wheel impact and can be directly applied to the road surface. Its thickness typically ranges from 0.6 to 2.5 mm. Its reflective function is primarily achieved through the inlay of glass beads and a special reflective coating, complying with the GB51038-2015 standard.
Reflective sheeting is a thin film material applied to signboards, using microprisms or glass bead technology to achieve retroreflection. Depending on the structure, it can be categorized as lens-embedded, sealed capsule, or microprism-based. Its core feature is its ability to reflect incident light back toward the source along its original path, making the sign appear exceptionally bright under nighttime headlights. Reflective sheeting itself lacks structural strength and must be attached to the signboard.

II. Reflective Performance
1. Reflective Coefficient Attenuation Comparison
Reflective sheeting exhibits significant attenuation at wide viewing angles (for example, when the viewing angle increases from 0.2° to 1.0°, the yellow reflectivity requirement drops from ≥600 cd·lx⁻¹·m⁻²).
Road marking tape prioritizes diffuse reflectivity (white Y ≥ 75) to ensure visibility even on rainy nights.
2. Incident Angle Adaptability
Reflective sheeting has an incident angle range of -4° to 30°, while preformed markings have an incident angle range of 0° to 80°. Reflective sheeting exhibits extremely high reflectivity at low angles of incidence, while road marking tape is optimized for high-angle incidence (near-horizontal). This difference is driven by their different application scenarios.

III. Application Scenarios
Preformed reflective marking tape: a "sticky note" for road surfaces. During installation, simply remove the insulating layer and apply directly, without specialized equipment, and a single person can complete the process.
Reflective sheeting: the "night vision" of signage. Installation requires professional installation. The sheeting is bonded to a substrate such as aluminum sheeting to create a complete sign.

Preformed reflective marking tape and reflective sheeting, while both reflective materials, play different roles in road safety systems. The former is an immediate guardian of the road, distinguished by its rapid deployment and direct pressure-bearing capabilities; the latter is the enduring eye of signage, distinguished by its long-lasting and efficient optical performance.
