In the hustle and bustle of the city, directional arrows on the ground are an important traffic sign, used to indicate the direction of travel for vehicles and pedestrians. Pre-formed directional arrows are highly praised for their excellent reflective properties, simple construction methods, and environmental friendliness and energy efficiency, and are widely used in the application of directional signs on urban roads, highways, parking lots, and other similar locations.
Guide arrows should be installed in lanes at intersections where driving direction is restricted, in lanes reduced in sections with fewer lanes, at intersections or sections with dedicated lanes, at irregular or complex intersections, and in channelized lanes.
For roads with a design speed not exceeding 40 km/h, the guide arrow dimensions are as shown in Figure 1; for roads with a design speed exceeding 40 km/h but less than 100 km/h, the guide arrow dimensions are as shown in Figure 2; for roads with a design speed exceeding or equal to 100 km/h, the guide arrow dimensions are as shown in Figure 3; for urban roads with a design speed exceeding 40 km/h but less than or equal to 60 km/h, the guide arrow dimensions shown in Figure 4 may also be used.

The directional arrows are white and can be set according to the actual lane guidance needs. When used in combination, no more than two directions should be used.
The directional arrows on the ground should match the directions on the signs.
• Road intersections: At intersections, especially large, irregular, or complex ones, directional arrows can guide vehicles into the correct lanes, reducing traffic chaos and accidents.
• Parking lot: Installing directional arrows on the ground in the parking lot can guide drivers to find parking spaces and improve parking efficiency.

• Highways and urban expressways: On these roads, directional arrows help drivers understand the direction of travel in advance and avoid sudden lane changes.
At intersections, directional arrows should indicate the direction of travel for each lane in the designated guide lanes. The first set of directional arrows closest to the intersection should be placed 3m to 5m from the stop line, and the second set should be placed at the beginning of the guide lane, with the starting end of the arrow aligned with the starting end of the guide lane line. An example of this setup is shown in Figure 5. When the direction of travel for a lane changes from the direction of travel for that lane on the road segment, additional directional arrows should be added to that road segment.

With the advancement of technology, pre-formed ground guide arrows are constantly being innovated. In the future, they may be integrated with intelligent transportation systems to automatically adjust the arrow display based on real-time traffic flow. At the same time, the application of environmentally friendly materials will make these transportation facilities more sustainable, reducing their environmental impact.
