[Temporary Road Markings] Construction Steps for Pre-formed Reflective Road Marking Strips

Preformed temporary reflective line strip

Pre-formed temporary reflective marking tape is a new type of reflective material made by combining flexible polymers, adhesives, and release films. Its typical thickness ranges from 0.6mm to 1.4mm. The surface of the product contains glass microbeads, providing reflectivity, anti-slip properties, and wear resistance. It is suitable for temporary application of traffic markings during highway and urban road detours, as well as short-term use of indoor and outdoor reflective ground markings.

Construction steps:

For road surfaces with loose material or small pieces that are prone to falling off, the loose material must be removed with a wire brush before construction can proceed.
Draw the outline and positioning lines.
Apply the adhesive evenly and to a moderate thickness within the outline drawn in step 2, extending it 1-2 cm beyond the outline.
Apply the glue and let it dry for 3-10 minutes (until it doesn't peel off when lightly touched).
Use a line laying machine to align the positioning lines and attach the markings.
Tamp down the markings by slowly rolling them in a straight line at least 6 times with a 90kg rubber roller or a vehicle. Use a rubber mallet to tamp down any gaps or edges to ensure the markings are firmly adhered to the ground and to expel any air.

Precautions:

The surface to be constructed must be dry, flat, and clean; sweeping is necessary if possible.

The adhesive dosage must be adjusted according to the surface condition (0.3-1 kg/m²). When applying the adhesive, aim to evenly cover the existing surface, extending 2 cm beyond the outline.

Construction should ideally be carried out in an environment where the temperature is not lower than 4℃. If the temperature is lower than 4℃, the surface must be heated with a blowtorch before applying the adhesive; the markings should also be heated with a blowtorch before compaction.
Construction can only begin after the road surface has completely dried (at least 24 hours) following rain; the road can be opened to traffic immediately after construction, avoiding watering within 48 hours.

During compaction, use a 90kg rubber roller or a vehicle to slowly roll over the surface in a straight line at least 6 times, tamping firmly into gaps or edges with a rubber mallet.

Do not brake suddenly or turn sharply on newly affixed signs to avoid damaging them.
